脱芳香族的官能基化反応開発の初期メンバー。ベンジルアルコール類の脱芳香族的官能基化反応を3成分反応へと引き上げた。その後、脱芳香族的なフッ素化反応の開発に転身。有用なフッ素化反応にまとめ上げた。すべてにおいてよくできた大学院生。
